Homefun pack · ages 9–11 · for parents · unplugged core
The Family Fact-Checkers
Nine to eleven is the golden window: old enough to argue, young enough to still think you are interesting. This pack builds the checking habit before the chatbot years. Catch a confident grown-up being wrong, out-recommend a machine at its own game, and write the family checking rules, with one optional screen experiment for the brave.
Screen-free at its core: four of the five activities need paper and a family at most. Homefun, never homework.
The same competences schools teach, in home language: maps to the AILit Framework (EU/OECD, 2026), Engage with AI 2–4 and Manage AI 3, Basic level, and UNESCO’s student framework (2024), AI foundations and human agency, Understand level. The classroom cousin of this pack is Second Opinions.
What’s inside
Five activities, one habit
Every activity comes with the words to say, the arguments to expect, and one conversation starter to let sink in afterwards. The habit they build: anything that matters, we check.
The Confidently Wrong Game
You answer quiz questions in your most certain voice, and some answers are planted nonsense. The children catch you, and learn that sounding sure proves nothing.
15 min · dinner table · Engage 3Out-Recommend the Machine
Pick the perfect film, book or present for someone in the family, then work out why you beat any recommender on earth: you know things about them that no data does.
15 min · anywhere · Engage 4The Two-Tab Experiment
Optional, one screen, together: ask the search engine the same question twice and watch the all-knowing machine disagree with itself. The folklore dissolves on its own.
15 min · one screen, side by side · Engage 3The Party Planner Split
Plan a real family occasion and split every job three ways: machine job, people job, both together. Useful judgement, plus an actual party at the end.
20 min · kitchen table · Manage 3The Family Checking Rules
The child writes the family’s rules for believing things: machines, adverts and smooth-talking uncles included. Fridge-ready.
15 min · kitchen table · Manage 3Starters & the tricky bits
A dozen conversation starters for this exact age, and warm scripts for the two lines that matter: private things, and worries.
1 min each · wheneverA taste of the pack“Deliver your wrong answers exactly like your right ones: same speed, same smile, same certainty. When they finally catch you, take it graciously, because this is the moment the pack was bought for: an adult they trust, sounding completely sure, and wrong. Once a child has seen that with their own eyes, no confident machine will ever impress them again.”
